In avanpremiera evenimentului din 19 iulie in clubul Space din Ibiza, Nights.ro a stat de vorba cu Dubfire despre 10 Years of Revolution, despre viitoarele sale release-uri si lumea productiei, despre galeria de arta din Barcelona a label-ului sau - "The Art of SCI-TEC" si despre august 2006.
You will celebrate 10 Years of Revolution with Carl Cox at Space Ibiza, among many other friend artists, on July 19th. What to expect? Are you gonna play some classics?
I'm a very nostalgic person so you can definitely expect some classics, albeit less obvious ones, as well as a heavy dose of new music. It's also very flattering to be playing alongside such a legend!
The Carl Cox Revolution has gained a massive following in the past ten years, as a flagship independent dance music party that reflects the energy and spirit of Ibiza clubbers. How is the story of it in your opinion?
It’s a definitely become a highlight of my summer touring schedule. Carl and his team do an amazing job of programming and organizing the many events and I'm happy to have been a part of that over the years. Last year, for me, were probably the best parties I've ever played at Space and I’m guessing this year will be no different.
You played b2b with Ricardo Willalobos in August 2006 at Kudos Beach on the Black Sea coast. Among other artists to your size have contributed to the germination of this party zone, that today gather thousands of people. Do you remember that day?
Yes I do. I actually met Ricardo for the first time on the flight over to Bucharest. We were both playing that night but for different events. Somehow we got the idea to meet in the morning after our individual sets and do an impromptu back to back set at Kudos beach. I also met Raresh for the first time that morning so it always brings back very fond memories.
We heard about "Art of SCI+TEC". What is it about?
My record label, SCI+TEC, hosted an art gallery exhibition in Barcelona during this year's Sonar festival. We displayed all of the artwork that Humanstudio, a graphic design team based in the UK, has done for the label over the last couple of years. We’d never done anything like it before, and it was a unique experience for all of us. In additiona, we also created a free iPhone/iPad app so everyone can see the beautiful cover art that we featured in the gallery exhibit and on all of our releases. You can download it here.
I read on your Twitter page that studio work is about to be finished on a lot of projects during this period. What can you reveal us?
I've done a remix for Paperclip People's classic "4MyPeepz" track as well as Davide Squillace & Guti's "That Ginger Pony tail" track. Both should be out very shortly. There is also an EP I've prepped for release on my SCI+TEC label this summer. And there are lots of other half-completed music which I'm just trying to find the time to finish off.
What machines or software are you using in studio and what advice you’d like to share to Romanian DJs?
I always say that it's not what you use but more about coming up with the right ideas. That is the first hurdle to overcome and the next real challenge has to do with wether you are able to translate those ideas into actual music. I don't use anything everyone else out there doesn't have access to already. I'd tell everyone to just focus on the ideas, trying to be different and coming up with the right "hooks" to their tracks.
DJ career is extremely hard and we’re wondering how you keep your balance for a healthy life?
It’s definitely not easy and a real strain on your overall health. My secret is sleep, eating healthy and exercising regularly. That is the balance that can be impossible sometimes but it is achievable if you have the determination.
