Interviu cu Cristian Varela (SP): Techno, as the real word means is always popular because it is not only a style of music, it is a style of life

In interviul acordat in exclusivitate Nights.ro Magazin in vara anului 2011, Cristian relata cateva detalii privind agenda sa pe sezon 2011 in Ibiza, despre munca in studio precum si despre noul proiect la care lucra de patru ani. Totodata marturisea despre artistii Livio and Roby faptul ca se numara printre favoritii lui din zona noilor talente muzicale internationale.

Artistul spaniol detine peste douazeci si cinci de premii muzicale internationale, fiind deasemenea titrat opt ani la rand, pe parcursul celor peste douazeci de ani de cariera, drept "Cel mai bun label", "Cel mai bun producator" si "Cel mai bun DJ de techno".

Influentat de o familie deosebita de artisti si de maturitatea sa muzicala, formata in urma unor studii de pian, el a compus coloanele sonore pentru spectacole nationale de teatru, filme, gateway-uri fashion si spoturi TV. Cristian are o carte de vizita impresionanta, cu peste 150 de productii si compozitii pentru cele mai presigioase label-uri internationale si companii, precum Sony, Intec, Elephanthaus, propriul label fondat impreuna cu Marco Bailey - Pornographic Recordings si noile sale label-uri: Donleyheard Recordings si Black Codes. Cu aceasta lunga viata de artist, o discografie bogata si, desigur, cu seturile sale spectaculoase pe deck-uri 3/4, alaturi de turneele interminabile pretutindeni in lume, din Japonia pana in Statele Unite, il clasificam pe Cristian Varela drept unul dintre cele mai prestigioase nume de pe scena electronica internationala.


Who or what was it that initially introduced you to DJ culture?

My brother, Luis Varela.

In the past you worked under moniker Carlos Duran, but you doesn’t need that name anymore. How did this happened?

Basically, because now I am playing a fusion between tech house and techno, then now Carlos Duran and Cristian Varela have transform in… Cristian Varela.

You own the title of Best Dj Techno In The World according to International Award Ibiza 2007, among more than 25 prizes. How do you explain that in the last couple of years techno became popular again?

Techno, as the real word means is always popular because it is not only a style of music, it is a style of life!

How do you find Ibiza this summer?

Very intense and much people than last year! Yeah!

You are active as a composer and pianist and I red in an interview last year that you were working on a new album in Abbey Road Studios, London. Is this in the form of a new project or it is just how you approach the production process generally?

It is a new project where I am working from four years ago, it´s a beautiful project!!!

If you have a whole day to work in the studio, how might you structure your session?

Just starting to compose music and, in a few minutes a lot of ideas come to my head, any structure.

We heard about some live shows for this year, with special performances like an orchestra, lasers and contemporary ballet…!?

Yes, very soon!

When and where can we hear you in Ibiza this summer?

In “Space” with my friend and colleague Carl Cox and, every Wednesday @ EDEN- Eivissa (San Antonio) with my partner and quasi brother Marco Bailey + guests artists like: Darren Emerson, John Acquaviva, Mauro Picotto, Gary Beck, Christian Smith, Fergie, Marko Nastic, Flavio Díaz, Gabry Fasano, Ricardo Ferri, Markantonio, Luigi Madonna, Carlo Lio, Sasha Carassi, Segio Fernandez, Toni Moreno, Alvaro Martin…..and many more.

Your Pornographic imprint is taking over Eden from Ibiza for a few nights this season. Is it going to be a regular gig for the label?

Yes, every Wednesdays during July and August 2011.
